The Pros and Cons of An Expanding Library

Ms. Kriofsky’s Summer of Reading continues as August wanes and her finished book toll creeps up to 13. To further fortify her library, Ms. Kriofsky attended the first annual Midwest Black Bookfair, presented by Black Garnet Books. Alongside her dearly beloved Ms. Star, the two made their way through various booths, reading various blurbs, talking to various authors. The duo discovered a host of books that they’re supremely excited to read. Ms. Kriofsky came home with four titles (pictured above), only one of which is signed and addressed to Ms. Star.

Unfortunately, Ms. Kriofsky’s literary catalogue continues to expand beyond her current capacity for shelf space. While she would prefer to acquire another shelf to accommodate her bevy of books, shelves cost money while weeding her collection is free. In the near future she anticipates being faced with the unenviable task of relinquishing some of her library.

Emotional Turbulence

I don’t feel good today. Did I go to bed too late? Is it because I skipped breakfast? Am I finally wrestling with the reality that I’m fundamentally unloveable? Incredibly difficult to say. Nearly impossible.

Is it worth it? To keep trying? Knowing that the future holds inevitable disappointment? Not for me, of course. Just for the people I love. I don’t think I know how to be a version of myself that’s worthy of them.

Wallowing is easier. It’s harder to let someone down when they don’t expect anything from you. When they don’t hope for anything from you. If I could just lay down. Close my eyes. Let the phone ring. Feel the temperature drop around me. The lights are off and no one is home.

I don’t feel good today. Maybe tomorrow will be different. I know better than to expect anything from myself.

Sorry. Anyway. How are you?

i have not started reading any of the books i got. instead i started reading a book i got during the Midwest Indie Bookstore Day called Behooved and i think one of the main love interests is supposed to turn into a horse. thats what the synopsis says. thats also why i bought it so if nobody becomes horsefied i will be disappointed

i used to be sneaky and take an extra book from those little free libraries in front of yards. I had a route I would take when I walked my dog so I could check at least 4 of them in the neighborhood. After some time my greed accumulated a lot of books, too many for the shelves. Realized I had a problem, and started giving them away to free libraries as penance.

thoughts? feelings? worries?
